20 years on - The PWRR remember our special Colonel in Chief
Diana, Princess of Wales was the PWRR's first Colonel in Chief, our royal figurehead; she passed away on 31 Aug 1997. Diana took this role very seriously and built a lasting rapport with soldiers and families alike. Visits to the regiment were frequent and saw her present our Colours and visit on operations in Northern Ireland (in secrecy). Tributes are listed below from just a few of the many Tiger veterans who contacted the PWRRA with their fond recollections. PWRRA Chairman Chris Parker paid tribute to Diana, saying: "The tributes from the PWRR are many and heartfelt - we all valued Diana's huge contribution to launching our now famous Regiment. Thank you to PWRR Veteran Sgt Mark Farenden whose great idea was this Tiger Tribute to Diana."
Tiger Tributes:
"An amazing Lady - we all loved her." "Thanks to her, we became a famous regiment." "We met her many times and she always talked to the lads as normal people." "I will never forget I met her and shook her hand." "A sad day when she died but we helped at her burial and served her loyally. RIP, ma'am." |
